Highlighted in the Domesday Book,
Burton Bradstock
was
one of nine places referred to in the hundred of Goderthorn. Prior to
that, during Saxon times, the village was called Bridetone meaning the village
of the River Bride. At that time, the village consisted of 28 households
whereas today there are around 1000 inhabitants. Proximity to the sea is a big
appeal to visitors and at night, if you listen carefully, the sound of the
waves breaking can be heard.
